A core aspect of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is to secure electronic medical records. The Certified HIPAA Security Specialist examines all defined HIPAA security specifications and identify options and solutions available to secure health care entities.

The HIPAA security provision will result in substantial investment in e-business initiatives and deployment of security technology specifically in the health-care and insurance industries. The Certified HIPAA Security Specialist™ (CHSS™) training helps you understand the core elements for defining the framework towards HIPAA’s security compliance.

The HIPAA security compliance training flow and content accounts for the three security domains defined within the HIPAA Security Rule. The HIPAA security domain topics are addressed in the context of the required implementation specifications and associated security technologies and policies. Each lesson is focused with health care examples, templates and solutions that will be valuable as your organization considers options to secure the enterprise.

HIPAA Certification Training: CHSS™ Learning Objectives

From this HIPAA security compliance training boot camp you will learn the following:

  • Understand all required and addressable HIPAA Security implementation specifications
  • Analyze international security standards, ISO’s 17799 and the BS 7799
  • Review core elements of a security policy document for a health care entity
  • Examine security technologies that enable support for HIPAA’s security requirements
  • Review specific requirements and implementation features within each security category.
  • Identify core elements of a compliance plan that every health care entity is required to develop for business continuity and disaster recovery

Validate your HIPAA security skills and knowledge and get certified as a HIPAA Security Specialist.

HIPAA Certification Training: Prerequisite Knowledge

In order to be eligible for CHSS™ certification, the candidate must currently be a Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP).

*Important note:
CHSS™ is level 2 of HIPAA certification. In order for HIPAA Academy to issue CHSS™ certification you must have Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP) credential.

HIPAA Certification Training: CHSS™ Target Audience

It is strongly recommended that all key members of the enterprise HIPAA team that will be responsible for securing health care, insurance and banking industries register for the CHSS  so that a common body of HIPAA security knowledge may be established. This will provide the base line to launch HIPAA security implementation initiatives.

Credit Given for Certain Security Certifications

The fast track is available only for students that attend Instructor Led Training or on-line program and pass on-site or online exam.

HIPAA Academy recognizes the breadth of security content that must be mastered to attain certain security credentials. The critical requirements for credit to be given for certain security certifications include all three points describe here:

1. The student must attend the CHP class from a HIPAA Academy Authorized Training Partner (ATP) or HIPAA Academy authorized CHP on-line program.

2. The CHP class must be delivered by a HIPAA Academy Certified Instructor (HACI) AND

3. The student successfully passes the CHP exam, either on-site or online.

Then the HIPAA Academy will award the student the CHSS™ certification credential without the student having to take the CHSS™ exam if they have one of the below credentials.

1) CISSP/SSCP from (ISC)²
2) SCNP/SCNA from SCP
3) Security+ from CompTIA
4) CISA/CISM® from ISACA
5) CSCS from ecfirst

To receive the CHSS™ certification, please fax or send the following materials to the address listed below:

  • a copy of your CHP certificate
  • a copy of one of your security certifications included in the list above
  • the name of your HACI instructor, date you took the class, and the location of the class; OR
  • the name and address of the ATP training center, and the date you took the class

Certification, Exam Fees and Course Pricing

Refunds

HIPAA Academy allows class members one year from first registered class date to make up a course that can not otherwise be attended. No monetary refund is available.
